The annual festival of cultural diversity began today by filling the streets of the city with colour, music and dance

The nine-day festival of cultural diversity officially began on Saturday by filling the streets of the city with colour as over 1,500 people representing more than 20 different cultural groups took part in the parade.

The Mela Carnival parade set off from Writer’s Square at lunchtime, moving along Royal Avenue to Donegall Place before finishing up at City Hall. There was also a Global Village at City Hall with live performances on stage hosted by U105’s Carolyn Stewart and UTV’s Paul Reilly along with food and arts workshops.next Saturday, 26th August where thousands of people will come together for a vivid, powder-throwing multi-colour frenzy from 1pm to 5pm.

The traditional Mela Day returns to Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 27th August featuring new cultural zones and exciting new performances for 2023.
