Saturday's Mela Carnival parade will bring together hundreds of participants and artists from Belfast and beyond
Northern Ireland’s largest multi-cultural event celebrating diversity with events across nine days kicks off this weekend.
The parade will launch this year's Mela Festival by filling the streets of Belfast with colour as over 1,500 people representing more than 20 different cultural groups take part. Some members of her family moved to Northern Ireland following the outbreak of the war last February but she also still has relatives in Ukraine..
Just days earlier, the group from Ukraine took part in the Mela Carnival to represent the estimated 2,500 Ukrainians now living in Northern Ireland. "We will have a large national flag and the children will be carrying sunflowers and wheat in their hands - the yellow in the Ukrainian flag represents wheat and the blue is for blue sky."
