Martin Scott 'changed overnight' following the brutal assault by two suspected shoplifters in 2021.

A store manager suffered a stroke days after being attacked and kicked in the head during a brutal assault during work. Martin Scott was covering a shift at Halfords, off Bridge Road in Stockton, County Durham, on September 30, 2021, when he confronted two suspected shoplifters.

Two days on from the attack, Marty complained of his arm being numb and his wife Kim rushed him to hospital, where a CT scan showed he had suffered a stroke, which doctors said "could be down to the stress of the whole incident". "My husband has basically changed completely since it happened. He's very withdrawn, he used to be a very outgoing person. He could have four or five projects going at one time but unfortunately since this happened he went into a very deep depression.

The family started a personal injury claim and talks with Halfords led to Marty being offered a £16,000 payment, according to Kim. His family claim it was on the understanding that he would stop the personal injury process and would sign a non-disclosure agreement - which he never signed.
