But parents who fail to meet the commitments they made without good reason would face benefit sanctions, meaning their income would be cut.Critics have argued that benefit sanctions do not have a positive effect in encouraging people into work and place pressure on vulnerable households. Parents who meet the conditions of higher working hours are also entitled to have up to 85 per cent of their childcare costs paid upfront to prevent them from going into arrears.
