Glasgow-born actor John Cairney has passed away at the age of 93, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland announced. The veteran actor was best known for playing Robert Burns.

"Throughout his life, he was a passionate advocate for the power of performance and the transformative potential of the arts and arts education. He was a lovely man and will be sorely missed." After drama school, where he met his first wife, Sheila, John began a successful career in the theatre. His most famous film role was in Jason and The Argonauts – where his infamous character was crushed to death by the bronze statue, Talos.
