Mason Greenwood has joined Spanish side Getafe on loan for the 23/24 season
In a statement, United said: “Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance. The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United.
“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”, Spanish domestic abuse charity, the Ana Bella Foundation have asked the club to overturn their decision. Ana Bella Estevez told the publication: “The club is setting a terrible example. Getafe executives should never have hired Mason Greenwood and should immediately overturn their decision.“If you’re a public facing organisation like Getafe there is no excuse to take a neutral stance on violence against women - you must take moral responsibility.”Greenwood has not played competitively in more than 18 months after he was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling behaviour.
Announcing the decision on Greenwood’s future, United said in a statement: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. “It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”
