A gang member involved in a £8m cocaine ring which distributed drugs to major cities across the UK, including Nottingham, has been found in Germany after he absconded from a Derbyshire prison. On November 19, 2022, Dean Woods left HMP Sudbury, which is an open prison in the Derbyshire Dales, on day release.

Woods had legally changed his name in prison, without the knowledge of authorities, and left the country with a passport under the name of Simon Corner. He was arrested as he travelled from Dublin to Frankfurt Airport on August 13, 2022.An international arrest warrant had been secured and after he was arrested, Woods was sent back to the UK on Monday, September 4. He has now returned to a Category B prison, where he will serve the remaining 10 years of his 12-year prison sentence.
