Trains were cancelled as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Greater Manchester
Five flood alerts were in place across the region on Sunday after a long spell of heavy rain battered Greater Manchester.
Northern announced a number of trains had been cancelled due to flooding on the tracks between Wigan and Southport as a number of areas across the region were warned of possible low-lying land and roads close to rivers and streams also becoming heavily flooded.A flood alert was issued for the Lower River Irwell catchment area due to high river levels. Flooding was said to be possible at low lying land and roads around the Rivers Irk and Medlock, Wince and Worsley Brooks and their tributaries.
A similar alert was introduced including parts of Leigh and east Wigan, which are in the River Glaze catchment areas. Moss, Hey, Bedford and Borsdane Brooks and their tributaries was expected with the further possibility of flooding in Leigh, Tyldesley, Hindley, Westhoughton, Atherton, Worsley, Walkden.
