Charlotte Owen, 30, has become the UK's youngest ever life peer
With its smart restaurants, upmarket boutiques and cocktail bars, it's got everything your average multi-millionaire footballer or well-heeled Cheshire housewife could possibly need. And now Alderley Edge even has its own member of the House of Lords.
Reportedly a former pupil of the private Alderley Edge School for Girls and a member of the the now disbanded Conservative Future group, Ms Owen could have a seat in the Lords for half a century or more. There she will have a hand in shaping the laws of our country and be able to claim £342 a day in attendance allowances as well as travel expenses
"A junior special adviser just in her 30s has been given a job for life as a member of the House of Lords," he said. "Many implicated in Partygate are receiving honours. This is sickening to the public. Of the several people we spoke to Wilmslow Road on Thursday morning none were aware of the appointment, or seemed that bothered by it.As yet, there is little known about Ms Owen, who doesn't yet have an official portrait on the House of Lords website. Catherine Neilan, political editor at Tortoise Media, told BBC Radio 4 that while she had sympathy with the sudden spotlight Ms Owen found herself under, questions remained about her appointment.
