Soaring demand for semaglutide injections thanks to their success as a weight-loss tool has resulted in a global supply shortage that has played into the hands of scammers and opportunists
analysis of posts across the social media platforms found Ozempic and Wegovy being advertised for sale from non-pharmaceutical sources, with other posts claiming to be selling the active ingredient semaglutide in its “raw” form., a user boasts that they have “managed to get two Ozempic 1mg pens” and directs viewers that would like to purchase them to direct message.
“We feel that it can be really dangerous because people don’t exactly know in terms of how to [administer it] and it could be contaminated and it could put lives at risk, really,” she said. She said: “I don’t know where they get this product from and whether it’s from reputable sources, and if they are buying from UK pharmacies online, then the question is how? Because a lot of pharmacies have difficulties getting hold of this product.”
“Without proper tests it is very difficult to tell a genuine medicine from a fake – and you simply don’t know what you are injecting into you or where and how it has been made.”
