Everton's disciplinary heading regarding alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play rules has reportedly begun in secret this week
Everton's disciplinary hearing with an independent commission regarding their alleged breach of Premier League Financial Fair Play rules has reportedly begun 'in secret' this week. It was believed that the hearing was set to begin next week on October 25, but according to a report from the Mail, proceedings have already started.
The behind-closed-doors hearing will see both Everton and the Premier League making submissions in response to the charge that the Toffees have allegedly breached FFP regulations when they posted losses of more than £370million over the previous three years, which is in excess of the limit of £105million set by the Premier League. Everton deny all charges and are expected to argue that their losses are explainable under previously agreed concessions relating to Covid losses.
Should the commission find Everton guilty, sanctions range from a transfer embargo, a fine or even a points deduction, which would hamper their survival push this season. The Mail add that the hearing is due to finish next week, with the Premier League set to publish the verdict and any sanctions imposed by the tribunal next month.Leeds United will be among three teams keeping a particularly close eye on proceedings.
The Mail previously reported that each of the three teams are ready to claim for £100million in lost income, a figure based on what they would have missed out on earning for one season in the Premier League. The hearing comes at an incredibly uncertain time for Sean Dyche's side, who sit 16th in the Premier League table. The club are currently going through the competition's ratification process, with 777 Partners this week releasing a statement insisting they have provided all of the 'relevant documentation' needed for their prospective takeover.
