Emails show Bassetlaw District Council arranging a meeting with the UK authority currently trialling the concept.
Emails show Bassetlaw District Council's leadership wanted to "accelerate" talks on the four-day working week before it eventually dropped the idea in the face of opposition. The messages show a meeting being arranged with leaders of South Cambridgeshire District Council, the authority which recently expanded its trial of the four-day working week despite the Government asking them to stop doing so.
Following weeks of opposition, the Leader of Bassetlaw District Council said he regretted saying "anything" about the four-day working week. His deputy, Labour's candidate for Bassetlaw MP at the next general election, then said the idea would be introduced "over her dead body."But Bassetlaw's Conservative MP, Brendan Clarke-Smith, says emails just released following a Freedom of Information request "raise serious questions.
Speaking about the emails, Mr Clarke-Smith said: "This new information raises serious questions about just how far discussions had gone over the prospect of a four-day-week before the idea was thankfully scrapped. People will also quite understandably be asking who makes the decisions, when the leader and deputy appear to so vehemently disagree on this subject.
