Council leader Owen O'Donnell said there have been 'huge numbers of requests' to the council about 'local traffic issues'. Zones are proposed to manage “unnecessary through traffic”, with a focus on residential areas and around schools.

Consultation will be held on plans to deal with “excessive” traffic in East Renfrewshire which could include speed limit reductions.

Costs for work in 2023/24 have been capped at £300,000. She added: “In recent years, the road and transportation service have received a growing number of queries and complaints regarding excessive traffic volumes and vehicle speed in residential areas, especially those that are used locally as rat runs.
