He claimed to have forgotten about the blade
An arm-wrestling competion ended when the loser got out a Stanley knife in a pub garden, a court heard. Michael Kirk, aged 29, whipped out the blade when he lost, Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court.
And, as this is his second recent conviction for possessing a bladed article, magistrates jailed him for the mandatory six months. David White, chair of the bench, said: “We don't find it unjust to send you to prison."This is your second similar offence, you were in a public place and you were in drink.”
“That other man told his partner and she went into the pub while tried to grab the knife from him but he was not successful. The defendant then walked back into the pub and ordered another pint but the landlord asked him to leave. Mr Conboy said in his police interview Kirk, of Prince Street, said he had not been involved in an arm wrestling competition and had not threatened anyone with the knife. When he was shown the CCTV, he accepted he was the one who brandished the knife.
