Rico Burton, Tyson Fury's cousin, was murdered by Liam O'Pray - a thug with a knife out looking for trouble
As 3am approached, Goose Green was still bouncing. As friends and families chatted in the popular Altrincham courtyard - packed every weekend - there were few signs of the tragedy about to unfold.
Now the yob who plunged a seven-inch knife into Rico's neck faces years behind bars. There was no reaction from O'Pray as he learned of the jury's decision.A 'loose cannon' looking for trouble O'Pray went out with pals in Wythenshawe and Sale on August 21. He was separated from his group and ended up in Altrincham's Goose Green at around 2.45am.
He threatened to blow the place up and 'end her life', his trial heard. The manager asked a staff member if they needed to call the police, but a bouncer said she would deal with the situation. A group, including Rico, were standing nearby at the time, but were not involved. O'Pray began climbing over the railings between the bars and shouted: "My phone, my phone, I've lost my phone."
O'Pray, who was 'bouncing', had to be physically restrained. At the same time, Harvey Reilly, then 17, approached him and put his hand on his chest to calm down. Rico staggered backwards moments before O'Pray was punched. Mr Reilly then moved towards O'Pray, who was bent over and waving the knife around. He slashed Mr Reilly in the arm and stomach.
Rico suffered from a deep wound that almost completely divided a major vein. He suffered a fatal haemorrhage. Rico went into cardiac arrest and was declared dead in hospital at 4.35am. 'Cowards' In the wake of the tragedy, world famous boxer Tyson Fury - Rico's cousin - was on talkSPORT with Jim White and Simon Jordan to talk about a potential unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk when the subject of knife crime was raised.
He wrote that his cousin had been 'stabbed in the neck' in the incident, before adding: "This is becoming ridiculous - idiots carry knives. This needs to stop. Asap, UK Government needs to bring higher sentencing for knife crime, it's a pandemic and you don't know how bad it is until it's one of your own!
Shaun spoke of how Rico previously trained and boxed at the gym until his late teens, during which time he won two national titles fighting as a junior.
