Joseph and Precious McDonagh were left distraught after a 12-week pregnancy scan showed problems with the unborn baby
A mum has told how she will fight for her baby son after doctors advised her to terminate her pregnancy. Joseph and Precious McDonagh ignored the advice and decided to give "God the last say" over the future of their unborn child.
Precious told how excitement at the pregnancy turned to despair when she went for her first scan. She said doctors noticed anomalies in the unborn baby without being able to identify what was wrong. “I said ‘Where do we go from there? What do we do?’ Obviously me and my partner were completely distraught. We didn’t know what to do all this time. I’m only 20 and my partner’s just turned 21, so it’s a lot to take on board.”
“The amnio test came back all fine, all clear but we still didn’t understand why the fluids were abnormally high, and they said they needed to send me for more scans. Two weeks later they said the baby was missing the pulmonary valve.” "They said his brain wasn't developed on scans but after a last growth scan his brain was perfect and is perfect. They mention palliative care a lot and I know this surgeon in America can turn a bad prognosis into a good one. If that's the last resort, the only resort, then at least we can say we tried everything.”
Precious set up a GoFundMe page to raise £1m to cover the cost of the surgery in America. In just two weeks, they raised almost £100,000.
