Dr Surya Dhulipala is hoping to resume working in neonatal care despite the 'devastating consequences' of her actions
The regulator which oversees doctors in the UK is seeking to ban a registrar from work after her errors led to the death of a newborn baby boy.
Dr Dhulipapa qualified in 2001, having trained in India, and worked at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool between 2019 and 2020 before moving to Blackpool where she was employed as a registrar. This week's hearing is being overseen by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service with the panel tasked with deciding if Dr Dhulipala, who has admitted all six allegations against her, should be removed from the medical register. In the final day of evidence the MPTS panel heard closing submissions from counsel representing both the GMC and Dr Dhulipala.
"This was basic life-saving care which ought to have been known and practised competently, not only by a doctor of her level, but also by those junior to her. There can be no escaping the devastating consequences of this basic clinical failure."
