Leading child protection expert Professor Andrew Rowland said Dr Surya Dhulipala is 'trust-worthy'
A well-respected expert in the field of child protection has described a doctor, who made catastrophic mistakes leading to a newborn baby's death, as 'a safe pair of hands' in her current employment.
Beginning on Monday of this week , the General Medical Council - which is responsible for the register of medical practitioners in the UK - has brought a case of impairment by reason of misconduct against Dr Dhulipala. The hearing is being overseen by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service with the panel tasked with deciding if Dr Dhulipala, who has admitted all six allegations against her, should be removed from the medical register.
"She is an excellent doctor and she is a really, really trustworthy member of our team," he said. "She is really highly valued by the team of consultants. I have found her to be a really safe and competent doctor in the work that I have witnessed her doing without any kind of supervision from me. I consider her to be a safe pair of hands in our child protection clinic."
