The Labour leader has his sights set on voters in Conservative strongholds
– in which, through the raw personal experience of running a farm, he powerfully illustrates the trials faced by “real” farmers . Celebrity sheep farmer and author James Rebanks has said that Clarkson has “done more for farmers in one series… thanachieved in 30 years”. He also won the Farming Champion of the Year award at the 2021 British Farming Awards.
There is a natural reluctance among this most conservative – and Conservative – sector of the British electorate to trust a Labour politician, but disaffection is such, and the desire for political change so tangible, that the Blue Belt is ripe for turning red. Jeremy Clarkson may live to regret reaping what he has sown.
