A Labour source claimed Lisa Nandy was demoted because she 'didn’t bother' with housing and 'decided her job was becoming the next leader of the Labour Party'
with suggestions the decision makes Labour look like it is not taking housing seriously as a result.
On the first day back from summer recess, Labour leader Sir Keir rejigged his top team and handed Ms Rayner, deputy leader, the post of Shadow Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and Deputy Prime Minister. Countering accusations that Sir Keir had favoured “Blairites” for his shadow cabinet, they dismissed the idea as “simplistic nonsense”.
“Instead, she decided her job was becoming the next leader of the Labour Party and focussed on that instead. I think Rayner will be better.”
