Archive images and reports will only add to the questions of why more wasn't done to prevent dangerous flooding that saw two lives lost in Queens Drive this weekend

The news that two people died after their car was submerged in flooding in a Liverpool road has spread shock and sadness around the city.

The road dips sharply beneath a railway bridge and this area has seen flooding for decades - including an incident in July which saw a woman rescued from her submerged car. The following August, it was reported that a van driver had to be rescued from his vehicle after he got stranded in 5ft of water in the same spot. He got stuck when water reached the level of his van's bonnet and was rescued by the fire service.

The ECHO reported at the time how "this was the fourth time in a year that the area under the bridge at Queens Drive has become flooded and each time the sewers have overflown." This will all only add to the questions aimed at various authorities about why more has not been done to prevent the type of dangerous flooding that led to the tragic events this weekend.

Cllr Kemp said he has raised the issue of flooding on numerous occasions and drain rodding has been carried out, and bushes have been cut back, but a "bigger solution" is needed.
