EXCLUSIVE: ECHO Everton reporter Chris Beesley speaks to Dan Meis about being tasked with designing the club's new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock

Dan Meis believes that interacting with Evertonians helped improve his design of the club’s future home.

He told the ECHO: “I was very conscious when I got the first meeting with Everton. I thought: ‘Why would they hire an American?’ “I think not being an Evertonian, not being from Liverpool, not being from England, helped me in a way because I didn’t take anything for granted. I was learning all the time and I had 25,000 people giving me their opinion every day so I had a lot of teachers.”

“I wasn’t very shy either and I must admit I was probably a bit naïve. It’s easy to forget that when I react to someone, not only 25,000, sometimes 50,000 people see it, respond to it and it creates a bit of a firestorm from time to time. The stadium will include a feature called the ‘Everton Way’ which will enable fans to cement their place on the site for posterity and many have already signed up to ensure the memories of late loved ones no longer here to see the development are included.
