Covid studies carried out by the Food Standards Agency revealed a new risk in UK supermarkets for shoppers

The tests were carried out by theStandards Agency and saw the Sars-CoV-2 virus smeared on packaging and food, including fruit and bottle drinks, that people might put in their mouth without washing or cooking.

If you have COVID-19, you can pass on the virus to other people for up to 10 days from when your infection starts. “The public may be interested in the finding that virus may persist in an infectious state, on foods and food packaging surfaces, for several days under certain common conditions.”
