Carse of Gowrie councillor Angus Forbes made the suggestion after it emerged enhanced pay had attracted 11 locum GPs to HMP Perth
A Perth and Kinross councillor has questioned whether enhanced pay could be the answer to the current shortage of GPs.
As the news was revealed Carse of Gowrie councillor Angus Forbes questioned if enhanced pay could have perhaps prevented the recent closure of Invergowrie Surgery within his own ward. Mr Ogilvy explained prison healthcare was delegated to Perth and Kinross HSCP but it was a more complex situation for GP practices.
As the discussion moved beyond questions to comments, Cllr Forbes said: "It feels to me that we've just run a test. It feels to me that we've offered GPs enhanced payment to work in a certain environment and that has resulted in a successful outcome which is fantastic for the prison service.
