City council says it will 'fully co-operate' with investigation into deaths of Elaine and Philip Marco
Liverpool City Council says it has committed to fully co-operating with an investigation into the deaths of a man and woman who became trapped in their car in a flooded road over the weekend.
The deaths of the much-loved couple have spread grief and shock around the city, but there is also rising anger and growing questions about why action has not been taken sooner in the Queens Drive area after decades of dangerous flooding incidents. Many of those questions are being pointed towards Liverpool City Council and the local authority has now released a new statement.
"The Coroner has asked Merseyside Police to look into the circumstances leading up to the fatalities, which happened late at night when Elaine and Philip Marco’s car became submerged in flood water. "The Council is now working with other agencies to determine what happened and why, and to take any appropriate action. The road remains closed and motorists are asked to continue to avoid the area."
