Remaining consequential works will take place at Perth Grammar School until the end of October
Potentially dangerous concrete panels found in the roof of Perth Grammar School have now been removed with remaining consequential works in place until the end of October.
The UK independent body's safety alert stated: "Pre-1980 RAAC planks are now past their expected service life and it is recommended that consideration is given to their replacement." RAAC is a lightweight, bubbly form of concrete with steel enforcement. It was used between the 1950s and 1990s in the construction of roofs and sometimes in walls and floors. RAAC has a shelf-life of around 30 years and can be weakened by water ingress with the risk of structural collapse.
"RAAC was found in one property, Perth Grammar School, in February this year. The affected area was closed to pupils and staff until the panels could be removed over the summer holidays and replaced with a steel profile roof."The briefing revealed PKC had known about an issue with the building material for four years.
