City approach Wolves crunch talks after Matheus Nunes goes on strike
The Blues saw a £47m bid rejected for the Portugal midfielder last week, and while they are expected to return with another offer there is less certainty that a deal will be done amid expectation that they will not be willing to go up to the £60m asking price that Wolves have set. That would leave the club either gambling on Wolves to soften their terms, working on a compromise, or walking away.
The club are chasing another midfielder in the final days of the transfer window, with Wolves star Matheus Nunes the main target after missing out on a number of other players this summer, after Jeremy Doku signed last week in a £55.5m deal to help cover for the sale of Riyad Mahrez. However, the Blues are set to have another small squad - a principle Guardiola prefers - with anyone not in his plans for the year moved on either on loan or permanently.
City have won the Premier League 2 first division for the last three seasons, so are naturally favourites for another title. Even with £34m of transfer fees accumulated for key players leaving, the under-18 players stepping up are also league champions. Winning runs are in the blood at City.
