David Freeman's partner Zoe Brett tried to save him but she was unable to cut him down from a fence over the road
A man smashed the window of his girlfriend's house and then when she refused to let him inside, he said "watch what I do" before taking his own life in the street.
When he returned to her home, at around 3.30am on November 5 last year, Zoe was scared by his behaviour and called police who told her not to open the door. David then said "you watch what I do" and took his own life on other side of the road.At an inquest held on Tuesday at Preston Coroner's Court Area Coroner Richard Taylor read out extracts from a statement written by Zoe after David's death.
"On Friday November 4 she said he seemed to be in a good mood. She heard a very loud smash at home and went downstairs and saw her front window had been broken - she was worried it might be the drug dealers he owed money to. She then suspected it might have been Mr Freeman who had done it. Then, in the early hours of the fifth she hears him outside, clearly drunk, and he was shouting and banging on the door.
The inquest heard that David, who was born in Durham, was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital. He was pronounced dead at around 5.20am.
