The young pelican was spooked by a flock of seagulls at 2pm last Friday
"It was so bizarre, watching Blackpool Zoo keepers running around Stanley Park," recalls Emily Street who thought she had stumbled into some kind of comedy sketch. Instead, the scenes last Friday afternoon were for a far more serious reason, with the zoo keepers on a frantic hunt for a missing young pelican.
"It was while we were waiting to be rescued that we saw the pelican circling, it just kept circling and a load of seagulls kept watching and following it. It was huge, I couldn't believe how big it was for a young bird." It has since been sighted in various locations along the Fylde coast, including in Lytham estuary and the Bloomfield and Waterloo area of Blackpool.
