Jackie died in hospital from a cardiac arrest. She had also been suffering with a perforated stomach ulcer and pneumonia.
Jackie Maguire, who lived with Down Syndrome, became ill while living in a care home in St Annes. In February 2017, Jackie suffered fits and the care home called 111, with an ambulance attending the scene. Paramedics arrived and thought the 52-year-old was refusing to go to hospital.
Instead, they were advised to keep "an eye on" her overnight and contact her GP in the morning. However, by then Jackie's condition worsened and another ambulance arrived to the care home. She later died in hospital from a fatal cardiac arrest. Blackpool resident Muriel has asked public law and human rights lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to support her when she takes her case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. This will determine whether the UK State did owe Jackie Article 2 rights.
