Blackpool FC condemned as 'wholly irresponsible' by town health boss for betting sponsor on new kit
Blackpool's Director of Public Health has hit out at the town football club's decision to use a gambling company as the new shirt sponsors for Blackpool FC, calling it 'wholly irresponsible'.Announcing the new partnership, the club's Chief Operating Officer, Jonty Castle, said he was 'thrilled' with the partnership. But despite the excitement at being associated with the gambling brand, fans and council bodies have taken a more cynical approach.
He told LancsLive: "Gambling is increasingly becoming a major public health issue and can lead to many problems including financial debt and difficulty, mental health problems and in some cases suicide, relationship breakdowns, job loss. LeoVegas’ Director of UK and Sponsorship, Sam Behar said: “We are delighted to announce this sponsorship with ‘The Seasiders’ for the upcoming season. Partnering with a club like Blackpool that has such a long-standing history in the game presents a fantastic opportunity for LeoVegas Group to promote the greatest igaming experience across the United Kingdom.
