Sophie McLelland, 20, has launched 'My Friends Are Different' which she hopes can become a feature in classrooms.
An inspiring young carer has launched her very own children’s books which she hopes can break down barriers around disabilities and additional needs.
The former Additional Supports Needs student has witnessed discrimination whilst helping out in schools and in her personal life.Sophie told Ayrshire Live: “I’ve started a series called ‘My Friends are Different’, it is all about children who have an invisible and visible disability. I’ve worked with children with ASN in the past. I’ve got disabled family members, my mum is disabled, and I’ve seen a lot of discrimination against them.
“I want to educate people of all ages, I want the books to not just educate the children, but the adults who are reading to the children.” “My hope is if they are educated from a young enough age and they are given the chance to see that some of their classmates are different, they’ll grow up with a stronger understanding and be more inclusive.
