🔴 The Army is on stand-by ready to help hospitals this winter as ambulance drivers prepare to strike

, said there are “tried and tested plans” in place to deal with strikes, which may involve using the Armed Forces.working for ambulance services across England are set to walk out before Christmas in a dispute over pay.

They are the latest group of health care workers to vote in favour of industrial action, with up to 100,000 nurses also expected to go on strike at dozens of hospitals in December. Ms Cordery told Sky News that the NHS has been running a drill, named Arctic Willow, to test trusts’ preparedness for dealing with winter pressures alongside a wave of strikes., Ms Cordery said: “What we know is the Army stands ready to help if it is needed. I think it is clear, as we saw during Covid, it’s really helpful when the Armed Forces can step in.

“I think the role that they played during Covid was very much supporting other services with things like vaccinations and I think the reality is that if the Army or other Armed Forces step in it’s going to be very much at the margins rather than going out and driving ambulances.”
