Liverpool Citizen of Honour and poet Levi Tafari is celebrated in the Baltic Triangle
The side of the Baltic Creative building on Jamaica Street and the corner of Jordan Street saw Levi unveil the mural of himself and one of his poems. The Windows Project, a creative writing charity Levi has worked for since 1982 were approached along with the Baltic Creative to arrange for the artwork to be installed.
“People forget the word Scouse means stew. A stew is an eclectic mix of ingredients and Liverpool is a cultural stew, with people from all over the world”. "When people said we don't write poetry - we have given the world rap, Jazz poetry, dub poetry and a whole host of different styles. When people saw me appear on TV they started to take me seriously, because they probably figured if Levi can get on TV with that, then he must be doing something right or something good. The rest is history".
The CEO of Baltic Creative Lynn Haime added: "It's one of the last pieces of bare brick we got on our building in this location opposite the Bob Marley statue. It supports our support of the arts, creative industries and it just fits really well in our community.
