A man who shattered his leg after jumping off a cliff has warned others not make the same mistake he did.
And although the incident happened 27 years ago, Paul is set to face yet another operation almost three decades on. “A little man was at the gate collecting entry money and, when I arrived in the bank, some locals were having a firepit BBQ. They offered me a beer and soon after I jumped in the lake and swam for a while.
Paul’s leg turned blue, but he was driven back to his hotel when he spent the night. When one of his colleagues returned to Litovel from a trip back to the UK the next day he took Paul to hospital. Prague's airport was four-and-a-half hours away, and the next flight to Manchester wasn’t for another five days. His employer Kimberly Clark paid for a taxi from Manchester Airport to Wrexham Maelor Hospital. When Paul’s cast was removed, he could see his foot was not aligned with his leg. An operation followed, to pin and plate the ankle. “The surgeon shook his head and said I was so lucky not to have lost my foot,” said Paul.
