'Christmas is a pinch point, a lot of people will be struggling'
A Nottingham youth worker who for the first time has experienced having a waiting list for their services this year is appealing for those who can to support their Christmas Campaign. They are appealing for businesses and people in Nottingham to help ensure that people have food to eat.
In May, the Independent Food Aid Network surveyed 101 of its organisations representing 194 independent food banks across 94 local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales. And 93 percent of organisations reported an increase or significant increase in the need for their services since the start of 2022.
“Families are suffering in silence so we thought ‘how can we provide people with food?’ With help from businesses and our partners we were able to do this.” Hannah Trevarthen, director of the Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature, one of Switch Up’s partners, said: "Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature is honoured to once again be part of this wonderful project to help the most vulnerable in our city. Our ethos - to build better futures with words - is tied to the same values Switch Up has long been informed by: we need to inspire to improve lives.
