Reon Juskowiak from Burnside hopes to do well at the event in Mongolia next month

Reon Juskowiak reckons he will cry tears of joy if he is able to return from the World Powerlifting Championships in Mongolia with a medal.

And the father-of-three, who is faculty head of PE at St John Ogilvie High in Hamilton, admits a podium finish of any kind would be overwhelming.“I’ve not cried for a while in sport, but I think I would definitely be shedding a tear if I managed to get a medal. “I’m hoping that my deadlift is going to keep going the way it is, and I might have a chance to medal in that.

It has been a good year for Reon, who became Scottish champion in the Masters 1 93kg in March, and then broke a nine-year record in deadlift at the British Masters in Belfast in June, lifting 280kg, to break the previous mark of 275.He said: “I’m shocked, I have to say – that was my goal for next year, just with the time line that I had.

“I set myself a target to be picked in a couple of years’ time, and it has come a year early, so I’m delighted to get the opportunity to go.”
