Lara said the lottery scoop “is not all it’s cracked up to be”

Roger and Lara Griffiths won the National Lottery jackpot in 2005 and splashed the cash on a new home, holidays and designer gear. Reflecting on her winnings, and claimed “most people end up worse off in some way”.

Roger told the Daily Star: "We must have spent £15,000 in ten days. She liked handbags, she liked shopping. She spent a lot of time at Louis Vuitton." They split after a 14-year marriage and blamed each other for their financial loss. Lara said that before the lottery win the couple had rarely argued and that they celebrated the night of the win with a takeaway curry and a bottle of Camelot champagne.

It was when they moved back in that Lara claimed she found an email on Roger’s computer where he was asking a friend for a woman’s phone number.
