Sheree Spencer physically assaulted and emotionally abused her husband for 20 years
An abusive woman who put her terrified husband through '20 years of physical and mental abuse' by sadistically assaulting, taunting, threatening and humiliating him has been jailed. Sheree Spencer who was sometimes drinking three bottles of wine per day was sentenced to four years in prison after the shocking 'catalogue' of abuse.
Michele Stuart-Lofthouse, prosecuting, detailed how during one incident, Spencer spat at her husband and grabbed him by the throat which caused him breathing difficulties. Her behaviour got worse as time went on and she pushed and slapped him before later hitting him on the back of the head with a wine glass which required stitches.
She was heard saying: "You're not a f***ing man. I want you out of my life." In one incident, she damaged a tyre on his car using a kitchen knife and lunged at him with the knife, causing a 2cm cut below his knee. Spencer's husband said that after she was arrested the problems continued during Family Court hearings through her claiming she was the real victim and by using character assassination against him. The victim had to defend himself against these allegations as he said: "She continued to exert her control over me".
The mixture of alcohol and prescription medication caused her to act out in a way that 'appalled' her and said Spencer accepted she had caused great pain and humiliation to her husband. Mr Pratt added: "What happened was dreadful". The disturbing filmed and recorded incidents revealed 'persistent, nasty physical and emotional abuse' on a regular basis, sometimes even several times in one day. Spencer threatened and assaulted her husband and he 'cowered sometimes on his hands and knees on the floor'.
