Dramatic drone footage captured the rescue

Police officers came to the rescue of a woman who had gone into the freezing cold Skegness sea in the middle of the night. Lincolnshire Police were made aware of the woman on Friday night, April 28, after being called by members of the public.

The three men who made the call were local asylum seekers and played a big part in helping to save the woman's life, police said. "[They] even stayed afterwards to help carry the kit of our waterlogged officers," the force said. "We are very grateful to them for their help and community spirit." Lincolnshire Police uploaded a video of the rescue mission, which was shot by a drone deployed to help find the woman. It shows officers running out to the woman before walking her back to shore. "Our officers would say this – running into the freezing cold Skegness sea, without hesitation, in the pitch black of night to help save a woman's life – is just part of the job," the force wrote on Twitter.

"We think many people would say it’s not, and that this is quite extraordinary. Some people think the job of a police officer is all about sirens, blue flashing lights and arrests, but there’s so much more to it. "It’s about being in the right place, at the right time, to help people who most need us, and doing things that change the lives of others. It’s running into chest-high, cold water in Skegness, without stopping to think, to save the life of a stranger. And we think that is more than just part of the job."
