Woking Borough Council began regeneration work on the 1950s estate in 2018, with the building of a new leisure centre on the grounds of Bishop David Brown School. Its company, ThamesWey, will not start any new development and instead the council is writing to the 1,300 households still living in Sheerwater for their views on what should happen with the remainder of the site, and the vacant properties previously earmarked for demolition.Residents have complained of continual construction work on the estate"We would have liked the flats and the shops done, that was the only bit that needed regenerating.
