The WNBA’s players are always saying that this is the hardest league in the world to make, and stay in, and the trials of these four are the latest proof. Struggles to get on the court in Year 1 are hardly an indicator that none of them will make a mark in the league at some point, but the odds are stacked against them in a 12-team league. That’s what made it so gratifying to see the quartet get at least a few minutes Wednesday.
If the Sky win, they’ll be one game back from the Sparks with the tiebreaker, giving them a fighting chance of overtaking L.A. in the final six games. But if the Sparks win, they’ll be three games clear and unlikely to give away that margin considering Chicago still has to play New York, Connecticut and Minnesota. If you’re still pining for single elimination in the WNBA postseason, this is as close as it gets.
