Centrica chief Chris O’Shea sounds warning after Ofgem reveals consumer energy debt hit £2.6bn – its highest-ever levelPeople face a tough winter of high energy bills and their budgets squeezed by a continuing cost of living crisis, the boss of energy supplier Centrica, owner of British Gas, has warned.
The Government’s Energy Bill Support Scheme, which gave every household a £400 discount on their bill, ended earlier this year, but energy suppliers have appealed to ministers to renew help for those struggling.to provide grants of up to £1,500 to customers who are finding it difficult to pay their bills. Those struggling must have sought money and energy advice to be eligible to apply for a grant.
