American icon remains in the chase for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam crown despite sitting on the sidelines for a yearSERENA WILLIAMS will set foot at the All England Club brimming with confidence after bagging a pair of grass court victories at Eastbourne’s Rothesay International.
Her success on her return to the WTA Tour after almost a year, having last played a competitive singles match at 2021 Wimbledon, was no mean feat in Eastbourne. Iga Swiatek, the world no.1 and recently-crowned French Open champion, seems the biggest threat. The 21-year-old is on an unbeaten run of 35 games, but has never got any further than the 4th round at Wimbledon. The Pole faces Croatian qualifier Jana Fett.
Williams has been handed the sort of draw she must have hoped for. If she overcomes Tan, then she will be pitched against either US qualifier Christina McHale or Mexican clay court specialist Sara Sorribes Tomo.
