New update from Wilko HQ

Nottinghamshire based retailer Wilko has confirmed that there are "no immediate store closures planned" following their announcement that they had filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators. The household and garden retailer, which has its headquarters based in Worksop, announced on Thursday, August 3, that due to financial pressures Wilko has taken the move.

In an update, a Wilko spokesperson has stated to Nottinghamshire Live: "“There are no immediate store closures planned as a result of the announcement today, and the business continues to trade as usual during this period.” who have now been put at risk. CEO Mark Jackson explained in an earlier statement: "While we can confirm we’ve had a significant level of interest, including indicative offers that we believe would meet all our financial criteria to recapitalise the business, at present. Unfortunately, with this in mind, today we’re having to take the difficult decision to file a NOI.

"That said, while we’ll continue to progress these indicative offers, without the surety of a recapitalisation being able to be completed within the necessary time frame and given the cash position, we’ve been left with no choice but to take this action." Earlier this year it was reported that the business was considering selling the company, and it hopes that finding a buyer could secure the future of Wilko and "preserve" the retailer.
