The rumour started on X, formerly known as Twitter, when a fake screenshot from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention was posted

at the festival, with the ground too boggy for vehicles to get in or out, and revellers advised to shelter and conserve food, fuel and water.

The festival lasts nine days, there are no showers, and festival-goers are asked to be largely self-sufficient due to its ethos. It concludes each year with the burning of an effigy. This normally happens on Sunday night, but has been pushed back to Monday this year due to the weather, which has now started to dry up.
