🔴 Matt Hancock risks being blocked from standing as a Conservative in the next general election unless he regains the Tory whip promptly following his controversial appearance on I’m A Celeb
Conservative MPs have a deadline of 5 December to tell the party headquarters if they want to stand again in 2024 – and it is looking unlikely the former health secretary will have the whip restored in time.
Conservative sources told the newspaper it took six months to restore the whip to former culture secretaryMr Hancock has faced a backlash for taking part in the show, which overlapped with time when the Commons is sitting. “That’s fine. But then he should stand down so the party can start selecting someone else. If I was Simon Hart , I’d be asking whether Matt’s actions warrant returning the whip.”
