The most suitable music to help curb comfort eating prompted by emotions – as opposed to genuine hunger created by the natural physical need for food – will vary from person to person.
“Comforting music lowers your stress levels – so you’re replacing the comfort of food with the comfort of music.” “I hope this research will ultimately support people to use healthier strategies for coping with negative moods and emotions.” For those women feeling sad, the average consumption of snacks halved, while for those feeling stressed, it fell by 35 per cent.
Regular overeating of foods that are high in fat and sugar, yet low in nutritional value, is common in emotional eaters, the researchers said.
