Like when we have our embarrassingly large collection of animal figures out to play with and Immy grabs the elephant Theo is playing with. Never mind that there are at least four other elephants of differing shapes and sizes on the floor, the only one she wants is the one that Theo has. But I’ll always remember a quote from a parenting book I once read. ‘If you call a child naughty, all you’re doing is creating a naughty child.’ It really stuck with me.
