Man United hosted Arsenal two decades ago in what has been named the 'Battle of Old Trafford' and is considered one of the fiercest games in Premier League history.
Martin Keown has admitted that Arsenal 'didn't trust' Ruud van Nistelrooy as the defender looked back on the infamous 'Battle of Old Trafford' with Manchester United.
"We knew that we were as good as them in that period," Keown told Mail Online. "They obviously went on in ‘99 to win the treble and in '97/'98 we won the double, so there was a tremendous rivalry between the two teams. "I didn't see too many guys rescue him from the Man United team, by the way. I don't know why that was because if I’d have been victimised like that, I’d have expected some support."
"Buoyant.," the former Arsenal defender added when asked what it was like in the dressing room afterwards. "When you went to Old Trafford and got a draw or won, you knew you were in the running to win it [the Premier League], without doubt, we couldn't lose that game. "A couple days later I went to him and said ‘boss, I don't think that was ideal, what happened. He said ‘well Martin, yes but we will sort it out’."
